/ SUBARCTIC LIGHT

The Silent Valleys

In the raw vastness of the Yukon, light behaves with a fleeting, crystalline precision. These watercolor studies record the weight of that silence.

THE MEDIUM

Pigment and Frozen Water

Working outdoors in the subarctic wilderness requires an absolute acceptance of volatile elements. The watercolor wash settles slowly in the cold mountain air, leaving raw, crystalline mineral textures on the heavy unbleached paper.

Unpeopled Rivers

Each brushstroke remains a permanent record of absolute presence. Without the distraction of human presence, the focus narrows entirely to the structural bones of the land—the sweep of a gravel bar, the dark spine of spruce trees.
